What to Expect

What to Expect

If you are considering attending Second Baptist, you might be wondering what to expect when you get here. Please take a few seconds to watch the welcome video from our pastor and read the information below to learn what to expect when you visit. We hope to see you soon!

Worship Services

We have two worship services at Second Baptist. Both services usually last between 60-90 minutes. These services might be a little bit longer than some church services, but we do our best to make this a time of meaningful worship. Nursery services are provided during this time for parents who wish to use them, but children are also welcome in the services. See the details below about the differences between the services.

Contemporary Service

Our contemporary service meets at 8 am in our multi-purpose room and offers a contemporary format that is different week to week. This allows the service to incorporate many different aspects into the worship service. Most Sundays include a time of singing worship songs, prayer, and hearing a message from the pastor. There may also be a time of testimony where people are invited to share something God is doing in their life (don’t worry – you don’t have to if you are uncomfortable). There have also been times where people have been invited to write their own psalms and prayers during worship. This service seeks to remove any distractions during music by dimming the lights so worshippers can concentrate solely on singing to God. This is a relaxed environment and most people dress casually, but if you like to dress up, feel free!

Traditional Service

Our traditional service meets at 11 am in the sanctuary and offers a traditional format that is similar week to week. The music includes both hymns and contemporary songs and special music by individuals and/or the choir. There are also times of prayer and a message from the pastor. There will typically be a few people dressed up and many people dressed casually in this service, so come dressed however you feel comfortable.

Sunday School

Sunday school is a part of our small group ministry at Second Baptist Church. We encourage all believers to be involved in some kind of small group Bible study and discussion group. This is where people can really begin to dig into God’s word and develop relationships with other believers. We offer Sunday school classes for all ages and encourage everyone to find a class to be involved with. If you cannot make it to a Sunday school class on Sunday morning, we also have some groups that meet on other days through the week.
